Mississippi Weekend 2016 Suspended

In light of the surrounding controversy and circumstances with passage of the recent Mississippi legislation, the Mississippi Society of Georgia announces with great regret the suspension of the 2016 Mississippi Weekend in Atlanta. All June 24-25, 2016 scheduled events, including the Scholarship Golf Tournament, the Annual Mississippi Night at the Braves game, and the 8th Annual Mississippi in the Park Celebration at Chastain Park, have been suspended.

The Mississippi Society of Georgia has been a diverse and inclusive organization since its inception in 2010. We do not discriminate, and we welcome all within the organization and to all of our events. The Society was founded to promote the cultural, academic, business, and economic development opportunities between Georgia and Mississippi. Through the proceeds from our annual Mississippi in the Park weekend and accompanying golf tournament, the Mississippi Society of Georgia has raised over $25,000 in scholarship funds that have been sent back directly to the colleges and universities in Mississippi.

Although we are suspending all functions for this year, we will continue to award our scholarship to one worthy Georgia freshman resident who will be attending a college or university in Mississippi for the 2016-17 academic year. The application process will continue as scheduled through April 30, 2016.

Fat Tuesday Social a Success

The Mississippi Society of Georgia gathered for a social at Smokebelly BBQ in Buckhead on Tuesday, February 9th. Since most of Georgia does not do Fat Tuesday, it was a perfect time to gather with fellow alumni and other Mississippi friends to show 'em how its done. Collections of $100 cash and many bags of canned goods were given to support Atlanta Community Food Bank. Check out more pictures from the event under the Photos section. This is an annual event so make plans to join us next year!

Thanks for another successful year

Thank you to all who attended and supported our events in 2015. Golf tournament distributions totaling just under $6,500 were sent to the schools' scholarship funds. This was in addition to the $1,000 awarded by the society and another $400 that was given to the Officers Deen & Tate scholarship fund. Check out pictures from the events under the Photos section. If you took any great shots that you would like to share with us, please email them to

Society Presents Check to Governor Bryant

On Monday, May 4, 2015, representatives from the Mississippi Society of Georgia met with Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant and presented a check for $12,000 representing the funds raised from Mississippi Weekend 2014. We are proud to be the only Mississippi Picnic group that sends funds directly back to the state of Mississippi in the form of scholarships. Your participation in the golf tournament and purchasing prize pack tickets contribute directly to this total. Let's make the 2015 check even bigger!
